Our Work

Overview

Our work is focused on two main areas:

Peacebuilding: URI UK works to build peace and understanding between people of different religions and cultures, through a variety of community action and inter-faith dialogue projects. Many of these take place in our home region of the West Midlands, working with places of worship, youth groups and community activists.

Human Rights: URI UK promotes human rights and social justice, most recently focusing on work arising out of the 2022 International Interministerial Conference on Freedom of Religion and Belief.

Our Projects

We work on a variety of projects linked to interfaith dialogue, social action and community cohesion.

THEORY OF CHANGE

On 12th November 2024, URI UK will host a major conference for Midlands-based interfaith activists as part of Inter Faith Week 2024. It will be preceded by a workshop for young activists and accompanied by an Interfaith Fair where local projects and forums can showcase their activities. The event will take place at Coventry University, and further details will be posted here in due course. The purpose of the conference is to remotivate interfaith activity in the region, following the body blows of the Inter Faith Network’s closure, the conflict in the Middle East, and the recent disturbances in British cities.

The ’Theory of Change’ for the event is here. Overall, URI’s ‘theory of change’ is to undertake a wide range of projects that will, over time, stimulate interfaith dialogue and multi-faith social action. We would also like to see many more local interfaith groups becoming URI Cooperation Circles. URI UK is not a religious organisation; our purpose is not to convert anyone to a faith or worldview. We are about enabling people from diverse backgrounds to work together effectively to address injustice, alleviate poverty and build cohesion – from words to actions.

THE KING’S CORONATION

We marked the event with musical performances, tree planting and a host of community led events in partnership with the Shri Balaji Temple in Tividale, West Midlands.
