Violence against women and girls motivated by a misunderstanding of religious tenets is a global problem, and one that URI UK is taking a lead on tackling. At the forefront of these efforts is one of our Patrons, Zerbanoo Gifford, an internationally recognised human rights campaigner, founder of the ASHA centre and former President of the World Zoroastrian Organisation.
Zerbanoo is already working closely with Dr Nayreen Daruwalla, an India-based expert and grassroots leader on this issue, who is leading a project to help domestic violence victims in India.
Shortly, Zerbanoo will be travelling to Washington DC for the launch of her latest book. “A Call to Consciousness” is dedicated to Pope Leo and King Charles. Whilst there, Zerbanoo will meet Karen Volker, URI Global’s Executive Director, to finalise a collaboration with George Washington University aimed at raising global awareness of the issue of domestic violence.
