Sevenoaks in Kent has showcased its commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) by raising £773 for United Religions Initiative UK (URI UK).
The donation was the result of a themed initiative called The Week of Faiths and Beliefs, organized by the school’s Service Group, which meets weekly to promote EDI values.
During the week, students engaged in a variety of activities aimed at fostering multi-faith understanding and cooperation. These included assemblies, a multi-faith fair, a quiz on different religions, a talk for younger students, a bake sale, and a home clothes day. Gaston, the leader of the Service Group, explained: “We wanted to raise money for a charity that fosters these values. Students in my group found URI UK and felt it perfectly represented what we were trying to transmit during the week.”
Deepak Naik, Chair of URI UK, expressed his gratitude for the school’s efforts: “We are incredibly thankful to the students and staff for their hard work and generosity. Their initiative not only supports our mission but also sets an inspiring example of how young people can lead the way in promoting interfaith understanding and cooperation.”
The school hopes to collaborate with URI UK again in the future as part of its ongoing dedication to fostering inclusivity and respect for diverse beliefs. Posters used during the week highlighted the importance of dialogue and mutual respect among faiths, further emphasizing the school’s commitment to these values.
